Yesterday, we shared with you a new report that reinforces the power and promise of our Liberator Model. Today, we are excited to premiere a new video that shows the profound impact our parents and caregivers are making in Oakland.

Our community is faced with a stark challenge: Fewer than 3 in 10 Black kids in Oakland are reading on grade level. The good news, however, is that our communities are the faces of the solution. Through the Liberator Model, we are proving that when parents and caregivers are in the game, we improve outcomes for our students and families, too.

We are so proud of our Liberators — primarily Black and Latino parents, caregivers, grandparents, aunties, uncles, and cousins — who are accepting the challenge of liberating our community from generations of undereducation.

How does this actually look in practice? Meet Susy, a Literacy Liberator, and follow a day in her life providing high-dosage tutoring in one of our elementary schools, where her daughter also attends.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s update featuring another new case study from the Center on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE). And, if you haven’t already, take 4 minutes to watch Susy’s story!
