This is Keta, The Oakland REACH’s proud Co-Founder & Director of Special Projects. I’m taking over this edition of the newsletter to let everyone know some exciting news: Our very own Lakisha Young has been chosen by the City of Oakland as the 2021 Mother of the Year!!!!
While truly every mother is special, some are just extraordinary in their willingness to help others — and that’s why our team joined together to nominate Lakisha. She is a single mother of three and spends her life fighting to ensure EVERY parent in Oakland who wants to put their child in a quality school and on a pathway to college has that opportunity. She is a fearless leader who has spent many sleepless nights thinking of what is best for our children and how we can get there together. Lakisha is not just a community leader; she’s a driving force for our team of powerful parents, always fighting to solve a generational education problem. She never takes no for an answer, and she always, always has our backs. Lakisha continues to REACH for GREATNESS for all families, and we are all stronger and more fearless for having her in our lives.
