This month, The Oakland REACH is endorsing the “CA Kids Read” bill, Assembly Bill 2222, authored by Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio. This bill is focused on comprehensive solutions to tackle the state’s early literacy crisis, such as: 

  • Evidence-Based Instructional Materials, including updating the state adoption list and requiring districts to use materials aligned with the science of reading.
  • Professional Development for Teachers, including providing every K-5 teacher with the training and ongoing support to succeed with evidence-based practices.
  • Teacher Preparation & Credentialing: To ensure that new teachers receive early literacy training that reflects the science of reading.
