My Story
I am the youngest son of Azorean immigrants who settled in the Bay Area in 1961. My parents came to the US hoping to provide a better life for our family.
In many ways, my graduation from college was a dream realized for my family. Unfortunately, my story is the exception rather than the rule.
Having served as a teacher, school leader, and educational researcher, I understand the profound impact of quality schools and the harm caused by racist education systems.
I joined the Oakland REACH so all families have access to the educational opportunities our children deserve.
